Hi - anyone got any recommendations for best place for hire cars in Alykanas or nearby? Haven't bothered with renting in the past couple of years as we both drive a lot in our jobs and have usually had enough by the time we land and are happy to stay put - but fancy getting out and about in a rental this year to see more of the island. Best place to rent from (fancy a jeep or similar) and where best to go ?Is a UK licence all we need? Thankx Mel

Hi Mel. First of all YES all you need is a UK licence. For the last 2 years Kath and I have rented from Euro Alfa in Tsilivi. They will deliver to any where on the Island at no extra charge. The price they charge is inclusive with not one cent of extras. This is what you must be aware of when shopping around. Many other companies charge lots of hidden extras. For september we have booked 10 days hire, split into 2 x 5 days. which means they will deliver twice and pick up twice for an all inclusve price of Eu 270. Don`t Forget if you book one to meet you at the airport, You immediately save the 30 or so Euros cost of a taxi to Alykanas or Alykes. well worth it in my book.here is the email euroalfa@otenet.gr Manager is Angelos, wont do any harm to ask for a quote.

Will agree, best is either Euro Alpha, Tsilivi or Hermes, Kalamaki Old Rd. You'll Enjoy seeing more of the Island, There is so much to see & do while Exploring. We are hopeful now of Moving to Zante in 2012, instead of 2013, as previously planned; So Viewing Businesses when we come over in October Enjoy Exploring Phill & Denise.

Hi Mel! How's you and the family. Dave still looks good in that apron! In the resort you will pay between 25-30 euros a day for a small basic car, with aircon. I can get a few deals. If you are going to take a car for the duration of your holiday then it's best to book online. Merlis is the best I have heard of. They are in Kalamaki, but you pick up from the airport, divert to their office to pay on the way to resort. Ask Big Tony, he uses them all the time.

Hi Shortie - really enjoying the blog and the photos of snowy Zante. Not had any white stuff here yet ( that's probably just jinxed NW England til March...) D still sporting the pinny - had to drag him back into the house a while ago as he set off for Morrisons in it..... I blame his age. Re the car hire stuff - sadly I was responding to the comments kindly posted last year which I only spotted on a late night post pub browse recently. As for coming back - got a bit further on than we'd hoped with the bomb site (AKA house) so it's possible - weighing up money etc and will decide in the next few weeks - fingers crossed! We need our Alyjanas fix!! M/D and C XXX

Well hope to see you. I would have loved a piccie of Dave in Morrisons with the apron on!! Shame he never made it. I'm starting a gallery of the shortie logo in different places so that would have been good. Really hope you make it, even for a visit, speak soon. Shortiexx
