I found this on the Guestbook from Mel.

I thought it would be better placed here, so sorry Mel, but i think you'll get more response here.

Hi - is Alykanas VIllage def being made all inc from next year? This was being proposed a couple of years back and the guest book in the hotel was full of objections from regulars,. Is this Thomson's bright idea? Who's best to complain to???

I've heard this stuff for many years now and ignored it. This year I think it is time to take a little more serious. Having a business that could be directly affected by this type of decision, the scandal mongers amongst the community cant wait to rush round to give me any bad news they can. I don't understand why, but they do. I also get info from concerned people in the know.

Thomsons head rep (or I believe he is the head rep) told a Greek lady who he knows tells me everything that he has been asked to oversee the possible transition of the Alykanas Village to All Inclusive. I had already been told by someone influential on the staff there that this was so. This same head rep told my informer that Thomson are hoping to take 100% of the rooms at the Alykanas Beach and do the same there. Since then they have been allocated approx 30% of rooms, so maybe it is true. They are then going to introduce all inclusive there too.

It would be right to believe this as Thomson are setting this trend wherever they can. Apparently there are 8 new All Inclusive complexes this year in Tsilivi! This will have a devastating effect on local business already struggling to survive the current financial crisis and when the typical Greek holiday style has been destroyed in the area by these Butlins style holidays, as now in many areas of Spain, it will be difficult to revive it.

We are hoping that the big two hotels in Alykanas see sense or don't quite fit the criteria and life here in Alykanas is not affected. Unlike Tsilivi, alykanas has enough small studio complexes to forget that the big two exist and can get on with it, but Thomson are not happy with that, I was speaking to Pavlos of the White house 2 days ago and he told me that they are pressurising him to fit the criteria too, to enable him to stay part of the company. What a shame that would be.

Myself, stuck between this lot, you might think that would be a disister for me, but I don't think so.

I like a challenge!! and I think there are ways I may even prosper from this.

Yes Shortie hope it never happens, I remember in the early days in Spain Thomson took over a large hotel in Lloret , we were full board, the food was rubbish to put it politely,we spent the week eating in small place up the road. So if they do the same in Alykanas get ready for the rush. See you in 4weeks time.  KEN &BARB.

Shortie - thanks for the update and for moving me! (can't think why I wrote in the guestbook) Never been all inclusive, never want to - and hey, as you say, plenty of other places to stay in the resort....

I don't think it will take off! One of the best parts of going on holiday is venturing out at night for something to eat, not sat in the same all inclusive hotel day after day eating rubbish food, which it normally is :)

Had some guff through from Thompson today for 2011 & they quote prices for the village place for self catering. Maybe its not going to happen in 2011, which would be a bonus :)

That's a bit of good news. I was down the Tui office sorting out a problem for our landlady, so I thought i'd make a few enquiries. Was all a bit vague, but I asked when the Village was available to book and was told that it should hit the internet soon. I asked about the all inclusive rumour and was told that there is not any info available but there are some issues with it's suitability for AI. Hopefully that's another year without it and maybe it will go away.

Thanks for the info John.

I've just been on Thomson website and put in details to go next sept... exactly the same two weeks as last year. It seems still to be self catering, but the price is £500 more than we paid last year. Can't see how a 2 bedroom aprt is worth an extra £517!

Wow. That seems a hell of an increase. I can assure you that Tompson will not be passing the funds on to the Hotel!!

Although the Village is a great setting, so is plenty of other accommodation. We stayed there last year & while I can't really knock it, I can't really big it up either. But Thompson's prices are staggering. This year were at Elpida 25 July - 8th August, ok not as good a location but still nothings far away is it, 2 studio's for 2 weeks for 2 adults, one 16 y/o & one 10 y/o, morning flight, self-catering, sit together on plane & meals, £1930 with Olympic. Exactly the same dates & details with Thompson for the Village & their price is only one studio too, an eye watering £3350. We will be using the apartment to sleep, shower & change. It's a helluva premium for location & 'entertainment' I cant imagine what 2 weeks high season AI going to come too, I know in theory you use less spending money, but if it happens it's got to be close to £5000.

John, i would venture away from the Village, but one of the reasons we liked it so much was the children's entertainment...kids really loved it. Not sure if it's worth so much though.

We have looked at the White house, but the rooms don't seem to be large enough.

this is my first time for posting and didn't intend for it to about all inclusive but anyway, we recently returned from alykanas, we stayed at the Aly Beach, have tried to book for next year but the hotel wasn't coming up as being available, the village was so i mailed Falcon and they said that they won't be 'selling' it next year (2012),  the same company still have it available for the remainder of this season but that it seems will be the end !!!!?????? hopefully i am wrong, would HATE for it to go all inclusive

Anyway, just to say we had a wonderful holiday and really enjoyed all the hospitality cosy corner had to offer...i will post a pic of our son with the cats, he loved them and is always badgering us to get him a cat (sorry to all you cat lovers but no way hosay LOL) we posted a review on trip advisor, you deserve all the great reviews. cheers.

PS if you hear any further updates about the Alykanas Beach i would love to know...but as you said this rumour has been doing the rounds for some time...maybe its no longer rumour.

The owner told us that Thomson have messed him about too much this year and it looks like he is back with Thomas Cook next year, but not All Inclusive. Will keep an eye on it for you. Thanks for the review, it means a lot to us.

We have just booked for next year through thomsons and according to the travel agent everything that was first choice this year will be all inclusive and if there is no restaurant at the accommodation then it has been moved to the "cheap and cheerful" brochure. Don't know how true this is but hope it is of some help to you all
