Just got back from 2 lovely weeks at this very nice budget range establishment. We arrived on Fri Aug 27 to be greeted by a very polite Spiros. We were alocated a room overlooking the pool with the all important air conditioning at this time of the year. Plenty of hot water was always available and the beds were firm and hard with fresh cotton sheets, just the way we like them. Mornings here are fantastic with cocks crowing for miles around. Views of the mountains and agricultural land behind are just out of this world. Our daughter & family decided to come over for a long weekend so I enquired about a room for them. When they arrived we moved to a 2 bedroomed unit at the rear of the complex as Spiros needed the extra room. Good move or what, the place was lovely very private with piles of fresh fluffy towels everyday. We were really taken aback by the warm friendliness of Spiros and family. His dad Dennis was a joy to watch pottering about the place doing his daily duties, I wish he could have spoken English as I think we'de have some lovely chats with him. Although there is some noise from the road outside the pool area it's hardly noticable after a few days. We're already planning a few visits next year !

There must be two Elpida's in Alykanas. The Spiro's I met was rude & unhelpful. The apartments were below basic. Rock hard bed's, noisy A/C units, towels once a week, bin's (including the bathroom one & we all know what goes in there) emptied every 5 days. Pool area very tatty & many broken sunbeds. Very average food served by below average staff, items missing from your plate, drinks forgotten & even cutlery not brought with your food & this more tahn once. Overall Elpida is acceptable if budget is your prime concern & you expect very little, however if you can afford more than its worth spending. I would never return there nor recommend it, 2/10

What kind of attitude did you have towards the Greek people John ?

Were you patient and converse with them politely?

If you were'nt happy with you're room did you ask for a change?

Spiros was a perfect gent to us from our first meeting as I was to him, the Greeks are a proud race and work bloody hard with long hours to provide a service.

For a budget hotel in Greece which is the norm for these relatively new resorts (Alykanas grew up in the 1990's) Elpida is up there with the best.

I had an aweful check -in and room allocation at the Letsos last year, but with patience and politeness we ended up with a wonderful stay there last year.

Budget is of no concern with us as we've done 5* A/I in the past in Med resorts, for the record we paid 238 euros for 2 weeks for the both of us to stay at the Elpida, It'll cost you more to go bloody camping over here in a rain sodden field with no pool or A/C.

Post's like the one you've written above simply astound me, get real mate, reply over with no further comment.

Why do you start off reasonable & then end up spitting your dummy? I love Alykanas, love all the people we met at all restaurants & bars, with one exception. I spoke with Spiro's on my second day regarding a small issue, the guy was rude end off. One member of staff there was just plain useless & in my opinion, to which Im entitled as are you, is that Elpida is a poor place to stay. The reason my post astounds you is because I have a totally different opinion to you, but thats life mate, everyone has different opinions. End of the day mate just because you dont like my opinion dont make it wrong ;)

Not sure what you did or said to Spiros . I have been going there now for years and have never heard him be rude or unpleasant to anyone !  As for useless staff.. once again, I have never witnessed this in all the time I've been going, everyone is always more than helpful and very accommodating.  My bin has always been emptied every other day and the bedding and towels changed regularly.

I am a single female travelling on my own, and this is one of the few places that I have been to where I feel safe and respected .

We are all entitled to our own opinion and I can not comment on the remarks you have made as I was not there. All I can reiterate is ... in my experience and in my humble opinion.. it is one of the nicest, friendliest hotels I have stayed in.. and yes I have travelled a lot with my work and socially.
