All Inclusive. who cares!!

Posted by shortie on February 20, 2010 at 5:53 AM

I have it on good authority that after many years of speculation and rumours, that The Alykanas Village is now on track to become all inclusive.

The program, if accepted by the tour operator, will be for the complex to be all inclusive by summer 2011.

I know we've heard it all before, but this time, I think we should be prepared.

I have a business in the area that will be directly affected by this move but I am fortunate enough to have a small business with no debt and will be able to survive on the regular clientel I have from outside the customers of the complex. It will however, reflect upon the amount of staff I will be able to carry.

The paperwork is not finished yet so the deal is incomplete and still on the table. The owners of the complex, I believe, have been told that they will need to raise standards of the Village to achieve a 5 star rating, already they have a task.

In the light of this, I feel even happier about the landing of Easyjet and cheaper flights. Hopefully the smaller complexes and businesses will prosper and leave the greedy giant with the clients that really do not want a Greek holiday, but a sunny Butlins experience.

My family and I like many of you, have been coming to this area for many years and come to this beautiful serene resort to experience the amazing ambience created by the locals that have put there hearts and souls into giving us the real Greek Island experience, and like most of you, return year after year for our holiday fix and to visit the locals we know. The area has survived so far the financial crisis set upon us, because of the amount of returnees attracted by their second home.

I ask you this, how many of you are going to stay at the All Inclusive Alykanas Village, spending the greater part of your holiday stuck on the complex in order to get the most of your money's worth, eating like school children, buffet style, waiting to sit and watch whatever entertainment the British reps are going to provide for you. Not much of a Greek experience.

I think that maybe, the All Inclusive decision could be a bad one for Alykanas Village and maybe, bring back to life the spirit of the smaller businesses of the area.

Just be prepared, and maybe from forums like this we can let newcomers to the area know what they will be missing if they choose the All Inclusive option with the wonders of Alykanas and Alykes to experience!!!

I'm sure you are right John. Hopefully it will get rid of all those PR's outside my restaurant that put so many people off coming to the Cosy Corner.

i remember when the beach and village hotels.were not built. much nicer then.

Yes we remember it well. I'm hoping that the return of cheaper flights to the island might spark up some of the smaller establishments and revitalise the high street, but the big buildings on the beach are here to stay.

I had to laugh reading that. We stayed there last year & I cant see them being able to cope without some serious investment into their kitchen facilities. Unfortunately shortie even if they do it & manage to get 5 star rating (a very steep task in my opinion), they will be plenty of brits who will fill it up. The one thing it does have is a great location & couple that with the mindset of not having to step foot out of the place for a week or 2, many will snap it up. Its a shame as you say because there is so much to enjoy in both resorts, but its horses for courses I suppose. Im not knocking the place completely, it suits some but wasnt for us, but you dont know that until you get there, all we did was lay around the pool next to the beach & then went out in the evening, gonna do the same this year but at the Elpida instead [IMAGE]

Typical! We find somewhere we like, and want to come back to, then they spoil it by making it all inclusive. I can't think of anything worse...it's ok to eat there for lunches, but to be tied there for afortnight and not visit any of the many fantastic bars and restaurants (including Shorties!) - well it's jusr madness. And they'll cerainly have to go some to improve to 5 star. Sad news - Does anyone know if there are any other hotels with kids entertainment nearby?

I dont know of anywhere at the moment, but if the village does go AI then i'm sure a nearby hotle will take the kids entertainment slot on.

welcome to the real world we at millennium have had this for the last 4 years and through hard work and good service and unbeatable value for money the big hotels have not affected us .but as a family run bar and pool.we work harder each year to keep this going .keep going with good food and you will come through .by the way we open third week of april this year come down and have a wecome at the new stone roses bar ////?????????

Yeah that's how it is Joe. As I said in the blog, I know it wont affect us much as we really dont rely on any particular source foe our business. it may affect the numbers we have, but that will only mean that we will have to reduce staff.
Like yourselves, we have worked hard at the Cosy and give unbeatable quality which has already given us great numbers of returning clientel and a reputation we are proud of.
I am genuinely happy that it is working for you up there joe and I hope that Easyjet might fill those apartments at that end of Alykanas again so you may prosper even more.

All inclusive sounds great on paper ...in practice though on our one and only AI holiday we were thoroughly fed up after a few days...couldn't wait to rid ourselves of the cabin fever.
I can see it having a positive effect on the cosy corner ...people will be all the more desperate for a taste of quality home cooking without feeling ripped off .
