They just got one lot sorted and then another started. In fact 2 fires close to each other in a close area to where the last fires were. This time it took some putting out. 2 fires burned simultaneously, one above the other as the planes flew over trying desperately to doust the furious flames as the fires near the villages before it is too dark to carry on. 3 days now since the fires started and the planes are still flying over to monitor the situation.
The fire department say it is arson! I hope not. Mindless destructiveness doesn't seem to be local mentality. In this heat it only takes a small spark to ignite a major fire and this season has been the hottest I can remember, even when on holiday. It has been endlessly humid and with very little of that afternoon breeze that we all know, but glorious.
The next thing seemed like an act of God!
The fires seemed to be under control 2 nights ago. Yesterday morning the fires looked out and everything was back to normal. By lunchtime the same areas were ablaze once more. It was probably around 3pm when the planes were back and battling against the flames but this time it seemed the fires were going to get the better of the firefighters this time, the flames and smoke rose and clouds of ash filled the sky raining down on the whole of the area. our tables were covered in ash for the second afternoon in succession, but not a worry compared to the fire situation.
Around 6pm there was an almighty crack of thunder, although forecast by some stations, missed by most of the local ones. The skies opened like I have never seen in August here before, it was like October rain!!
The storm and rain lasted about an hour and mother nature assisted the fire fighters in their ongoing battle and killed the flames! Fan-bloody-tastic mate!
This morning, a few planes are flying over, as i said, mainly to make sure that the fire has been extinguished and all is well and again the sun is out, it is a glorious day and all is back to normal. Let's hope that is the end of it.
Here is a few pictures that I pinched from DJ Chris's Facebook page. Hope you don't mind Chris!

This is a picture the quad that I purchased recently. I learned a big lesson yesterday. Whilst coolly buzzing around the country lanes on a glorious summers day, the warm air flowing around you and the scenery is so serene you are blessing the day you moved to this wonderful place, make sure you have enough petrol to complete the experience!!! Yes! I did, I ran out of petrol and this beast wouldn't be any fun to push. Luckily I made it to the shade of an Olive tree and phoned the AA! well not exactly the AA, but Jules. Jules took a water bottle to the local garage, filled it with unleaded and brought it to me, bless her. I did feel a pratt though. By the time I reached the bar, everyone knew about it! News travels fast here, well faster than me on a quad anyway!
Incoming this week!

Steve and family from Bonny Scotland found us on Trip Advisor and came down a few times. Really nice family. Steve says they'll be back again. We hope so.
Lots of friends gone now! These guys have been special friends for some time now and suprised us this time with a weeks visit and we crammed as much in as we could, but it was great to see them. Gill, Ray and Emily. Special people!
Also, Martyn (Spelled correctly this time) and Nicole spent 2 fantastic weeks in Alykanas and we had some time out with these good friends too. Mustn't forget Larry who spent most of his holiday with friends now he is growing up! leaving Mum and Dad to have a little quality time too.
Returnees, Nikki, Lee and Lewis. Lee in the centre will now be known as "the well done burger man" for that reason. Great to see you guys again and now we know you a little better maybe a drink out next year! Speak soon.

Thanks for everything guys, nice to meet you and hope to see you again. Ray! how about changing your profile pic matey! Mind you, maybe not, it is unusual and unique.
George! a local Greek lad, who is equal top of the Wall of shame leaderboard for the T-Rex challenge from 2 years ago, turned up on our doorstep with some friends to try again.
George and Elias both went head to head and fought T-Rex for a place on the Hall of fame.
Val and Roy with Sue and Ben. You'll be missed guys, but I'm sure we will see you again next year. Wouldn't be the same without you! We know Val as the 5 minute warning lady! ans always will!
Both these guys have fantastic appetites, but Rexxie got the better of them. I think on a good day either of them could beat the challenge, but not this one. A great effort! George, who is currently equal top on the Wall of Shame, won the head to head leaving just 470 grams and Elias just 30 grams over with 500 dead. Thanks lads, a really great effort.
These lads arrived this week. Friends and family of our Tom!
They may look a little boysterous but they are not. A really nice polite bunch of guys who are enjoying themselves just the same. I thought that I would save this piccie as 4 of then decided to take on the T-Rex Challnge. 2 Fast and Furious and 2 full challenges!
After lots of advise and team talks from stand in manager Steve, about how to prepare themselves for the challenge, the guys tucked into a Cosy Brekkie and rolls just a few hours before taking beast on!! Mmmmm! Strange tactics guys!
A few hours later they looked bemused as we wheeled the burgers out!
Loads of encouragement from onlookers in the bar, the guys here may have overstepped the preperation breakfast thing and I think realise it! But in the true spirit of the game, they had a go!
Pictured above the Fast and Furious challengers Josh on the left and Chris on the right, who went head to head. We do not record Fast and Furious weights but in the head to head, Chris was the winner and actually done quite well and in this instance we did and Josh left 915 grams and chris left 590! Well done Chris.
in the full challenge
Josh's twin brother Jake went head to head with Adam. These guys had a real task ahead of them! Maybe breakfast was not a good idea!
Well anyway, considering that, they had a damn good go at it, but as you can imagine Rexxie was too much for them. Adam left only 942 grams and Jake left 1165 grams. See you for burgers tomorrow chaps!
If you have done the challenge recently and noticed that you are not on the leaderboard, don't worry, you will get there. I am restructuring the page at the moment and it is taking some time because of the lack of time I have, but I assure you you will be there.
