Golden Dolphin Update

Posted by shortie on June 27, 2012 at 8:25 AM

Sorry about the lack of updates, but having a bit of quality time out at the moment. After a hectic first 8 weeks it is great to have a bit of time to relax and sit in the sun and have a swim. I'll catch up ver the next few days.
If you remember we went to see how Nikos at the Golden Dolphin was doing pre-season just before he opened. As we thought, although out of the main stretch a bit, it is a fantastic setting. So peaceful there and right on the beach, you just can't go wrong. Nikos has put a volleyball net in  the sea if you feel a little energetic, but the sunbeds are all I need along with the crystal clear gently shelving sea.

It was very warming to see so many shortiewebbers there, I don't know if this is a result of our last appeal to support Nikos in his venture or just because they were there, whichever it was it made me a happy man.

Big Tony and Chris were joined by friends from their hometown who they have grown up with. Super (Supersonic) and Kath are staying in Tsilivi at the moment but spent the day with us here in Alykes. Do you think they'll see the difference! i think so, but it's not everyones cup of tea. They both seemed to really enjoy the day, taking it easy on this serene stretch of beach, away from the madding crowds.

Just us blokes cooling down on a blistering hot day.

How idilic! The golden Dolphin Bar in all it's wonderful glory! Spend a day here and I guarantee you will come back.

Outside, on the beach, Big Tony and Super enjoying the sun.

Owner Nikos trying hard to hide his Red Lemon T-Shirt!! Too late mate. Great chillout place and a great day we had there.

I keep telling you how laid back it is here. This is how they sell boat trips here!! relaxing eh!
I think this month it has been a change, listening to customers who always talk about the regularly good restaurants. This month we have heard so many good things about La Caretta and also the new restaurant, Ellathi opposite Scandals bar. In Alykes good reports about Papora still coming in. Let me know if you have had a gastronomic experience worth mentioning. No bad ones though, save them for the message boards and forums.

Cosy Special last night -  American pulled pork! So popular that I have added it to the menu, but need a special as it goes quite fast.

Yesterdays Weather - Hot! 38 degs
Exchange rate in the resorts - 1.18e. Don't know why, but up a bit again. Still lower that the UK
ATM Watch - All working and operational.

Big Tony has informed me that the cash machines are displaying exchange rates a lot lower than they should be. His showed 1.16 but he got 1.24 as arranged with his bank. To be sure, please check with your bank what rate you will get and also set a daily withdrawal amount.
Mossie Watch - Average for the time of year!  But not a problem to those who wear mossie stuff

If you are going to celebrate a birthday or any event at the Cosy Corner and you would like us to organise a Bananagram or a Blobbygram or even a cake, just click contact me and message me.

Note - Also, please remember to bring your EHIC card  and read our advise on our "Coming here on holiday" Page.

Note - Please do not take any notice of the scaremongering about the Euro bailout at the momment. The transition will take months probably a year! not over night, and why would you believe that you cant change Euros to whatever the new currency will be! Do you think that Greece will not accept the Euro. No! The whole thing is rediculous.

Enjoy your well earned holiday and leave the worring to the politicians!

Note - Another thing! please bring sun lotion and creams with you. You will pay up to 20 euros for sun lotion here. Tesco or Asda must be better.

Another huge thumbs up for the Golden Dolphin and it's newly added beach bar. This small very lay back bar is located just along in front of the salt flats if going by road or just look for the volleyball net if walking along the beach. Plays a great selection of music in the background for all tastes. Attentitive service straight to your sunbeds (lots of iced Mythos). Guy's you should try this place away from the more crowded end of the beach, thank's Nickos we'll see you again in August/Sept.

Been to the Golden Dolphin many times the years we have been going to Alykes , but we will be there in 4 weeks so we will definately try the new bar .Also when we first went to Alykes they used to have a volleyball net in the sea & all the lads used to have good fun , so this is a good idea .
